Less than a week ago I got word that I had a chance to go to Australia. 2 days ago, I found out that I could spend some additional time exploring the country (and surrounding countries) for potential internship sites. I'll be accompanying a good friend and colleague, Dr. Jim Zarick, as he leads a group of graduate and undergraduate students from the Department of Exercise & Sport Science on a facilities/event management study abroad trip through Sydney and Gold Coast.
Australia and New Zealand have so much to offer that I don't even know where to start. Other than to contact a couple of traveling friends I met in Skagway, Alaska. Amy and James are mean pool sharks and noted adventurers. Both are from New Zealand, and James still lives and works in Sydney (although I'm not sure which part). Amy is in the UK, moving to Canada soon, I think. I'm hoping they can help find a remedy for my little dilemma. So with very little notice and way too many options, I'm beginning to think about starting to put together a tentative skeleton of a preliminary plan for my part of the trip that I will later re-review and change at least a dozen times.
At this point, I know 2 things for certain: 1) I'm scheduled to leave the U.S. on July 14, and 2) I'm scheduled to return to the U.S. on August 7. Everything in between is a bit muddy.
